24 Years of Khadakwasla Reservoir Protection Campaign Completed Successfully

Pune – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been conducting the ‘Khadakwasla Reservoir Protection Campaign’ for the past 23 years. This continuous, tireless, and inspiring mission is organized every year with the active participation of Khadakwasla villagers and socially conscious citizens of Pune. This year marks the 24th year of the campaign. Shri Bhimrao (Anna) Tapkir, the sitting BJP – MLA of the Khadakwasla constituency, inaugurated the campaign by performing the traditional coconut-breaking ceremony.

With a resolve to maintain the sanctity of the reservoir during the festivals of Dhulivandan and Rang Panchami, volunteers of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, along with local villagers and the administration, form a human chain around the reservoir to protect it. This campaign has been 100% successful every year; since its inception, not a single person has entered the reservoir during the campaign hours. Due to a passion for nature conservation and a commitment to social awareness, this campaign has emerged as a beacon of environmental protection.

More than 200 volunteers and devotees from Pune and surrounding areas stood around the Khadakwasla reservoir, forming a human chain and holding educational placards. The campaign was conducted from 9 am to 7 pm. Along with local residents, conscious citizens from Pargaon, Daund, Saswad, Talegaon, Bhor, Shirwal, Manjari, and Pune city participated in this mission.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Shri Bhimrao (Anna) Tapkir (MLA, Khadakwasla), Mrs. Dhanshree Dattatray Kolhe (BJP Corporator, Pune Municipal Corporation), Shri Dattatray Kolhe (State Secretary, BJP OBC Morcha, Maharashtra), Sarang Navale (Former President, BJP Yuva Morcha, Khadakwasla), Shri Atul Bhos (Senior Police Inspector, Nanded City Police Station), Shri Sachin Ghule (Hindu Rashtra Samanvay Samiti), and Shri Parag Gokhale (Hindu Janajagruti Samiti).

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Bhimrao Anna Tapkir said, “The Samiti is working selflessly to ensure that no one enters the dam water and to prevent water pollution. All citizens should strive to keep our water sources safe and clean.”

The campaign was collectively organized by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Khadakwasla villagers, Pune police department, local administration, irrigation department, and like-minded organizations. Many citizens appreciated the initiative after the awareness drive. The police and administration provided excellent cooperation.

A similar campaign will be organized on the day of Rang Panchami, March 8th. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has appealed to the public to participate in large numbers.
