With 100% success in preventing pollution of the Khadakwasla Reservoir for the 22nd consecutive year !

Pune – The ‘Khadakwasla Reservoir Protection Mission’ organized annually on Dhulivandan and Rangpanchami in Pune has achieved a remarkable success rate of 100% for the 22nd consecutive year. This initiative holds significant importance, especially as Maharashtra grapples with the challenge of water scarcity. The campaign, conducted on March 25th by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Khadakwasla Villagers, and the Samavichari Organization, involved activists forming a human chain around the Khadakwasla reservoir. Their objective was to raise awareness among citizens and prevent them from entering the dam premises.

Khadakwasla reservoir, one of the four dams supplying water to Pune city, has a water storage capacity of 1.19 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic Feet), making it a crucial water source for Pune’s residents. The social welfare movement has been ongoing for 22 years now, aiming to safeguard drinking water from pollution during Dhulivandan or Rangpanchami festivities.

Since its inception, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been actively raising awareness about the significance of Dhulivandan and Rangpanchami, emphasizing the importance of celebrating Hindu festivals responsibly and avoiding mischiefs. Their mission aims not only to prevent pollution of water reservoirs during these festivities but also to educate Hindus about the true essence of their religion. The campaign commenced with the worship of Lord Krishna, symbolizing the spiritual aspect of these festivals. Shri Krishnaji Patil of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti inaugurated the campaign by breaking coconuts, signifying auspicious beginnings. Among the dignitaries present were Shri Jalindar Sutar, entrepreneur Mr. Ashok Kadu, Mr. Sarang Radkar from the Business Association, Mr. Bhanudas Khutwad, the Headmaster of Zilla Parishad School in Pande village, Mr. Parag Gokhale from the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, along with over 150 activists.
