Pune: Pune-based Vaidya Eeshani Bendale has been selected to participate in the annual session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York. Her participation in the global forum has brought recognition to the city. Notably, this will be her third consecutive participation in the conference. Bendale will highlight issues related to women’s health, access to justice, and gender equality, drawing from her on-ground experience within India’s healthcare system.
The annual session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), which works towards advancing women’s equality worldwide, is being held from March 9 to 19 at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference has brought together government representatives, policymakers, and members of civil society organisations from across the world.
Originally from Pune, Bendale completed her Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya. She later pursued postgraduate studies in nanomedicine at Swansea University in the United Kingdom. She is currently pursuing higher studies in Evidence-Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford.
In recognition of her research work, she was selected as a ‘Champion’ by the British Society for Nanomedicine in 2023. Last year, she also moderated a discussion at the prestigious Oxford Union on the theme ‘Western Feminism and the Global South’.
Speaking about the opportunity, Bendale said, “It is an honour to participate in the UN Commission on the Status of Women for the third time. As an Ayurvedic doctor from India, I have the opportunity to present perspectives on women’s health, access to justice, and gender equality based on practical experience from the healthcare sector. There is a need for broader global dialogue on gender equality, and I look forward to contributing to discussions that connect policy, lived experiences, and international collaboration.”
