Pune: MIT Art, Design and Technology University (MIT-ADT) celebrated the 369th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour amid the beats of traditional dhol-tasha, saffron flags and resounding chants of “Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivray” and “Har Har Mahadev”.
The celebrations, held at the Urmilatai Karad Auditorium on the university campus, included idol worship, Shiv-Shambhu chants and a special lecture by university executive president Prof Dr Mangesh Karad, who highlighted the contribution and valour of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in protecting Swarajya.
Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Ramchandra Pujeri, Dr Mohit Dubey, Dr Nachiket Thakur and director of student welfare Dr Suraj Bhoyar were among those present on the occasion. Members of the Shivray Dhol-Tasha Pathak were also felicitated for their contribution.
Following the lecture, a special screening of the film ‘Chhava’ was organised for students. Several scenes depicting the life and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj left the audience emotional, with many students visibly moved during the climax of the film.
‘Sambhaji Maharaj preserved Maharashtra Dharma’
Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Mangesh Karad said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj remains a great source of inspiration and energy. He added that after Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj courageously faced continuous threats to Swarajya and fought numerous battles over nine years without retreating.
“His fierce resistance weakened even Aurangzeb’s mighty army. Sambhaji Maharaj’s contribution to history is immense, and it was because of his sacrifice and determination that Maharashtra Dharma survived and flourished,” he said.
