Initiative led by MP Prof Dr Medha Kulkarni to promote health, an eco-friendly lifestyle

Pune: To mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, Pune will host a mega cycling rally, ‘Pune on Pedals’, along with a walkathon on Saturday, September 13. The initiative aims to spread awareness of fitness and sustainable living.

The event will begin at 6 am from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Kothrud. The cycle rally will conclude at the Jhansi Rani statue near Bal Gandharva Chowk, while the walkathon will end near SNDT College.

The rally will be inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Urban Development, Madhuri Misal. Pune municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Maharashtra Kesari wrestler Shivraj Rakshe, and former India cricketer Kedar Jadhav will attend as guests of honour.

Organised for the sixth consecutive year, the initiative has been encouraging cycling as a mode of transport and lifestyle choice. “Pune is known as the city of cycles. Cycling is not only eco-friendly but also beneficial for health. This year, we have added a walkathon along with the rally, and expect over 4,000 citizens to participate,” said MP Prof Dr Medha Kulkarni, the event’s convenor.

Each participant will receive a medal, certificate, and T-shirt. For details and registration, citizens can contact committee members Priyanka (7767008500), Nilesh Misal (8329579612), or Kalyani Tokekar (7499853905).
