Sahyadri Hospitals Launches ‘Zindagi Milegi Dobara’ Campaign to Drive Organ Donation Awareness and Pledges

Pune, August 14, 2025 – In a nation where lakhs await life-saving transplants due to the unavailability of the desired organ, Sahyadri Hospitals has launched ‘Zindagi Milegi Dobara’, an initiative aimed at increasing public awareness and encouraging citizens to pledge for organ donation. India has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world, with a deceased organ donation rate of less than 1 donor per million population despite performing nearly 18,900 organ transplants in 2024 and ranking third globally by volume. This shortage leads to a severe mismatch between demand and availability, with an estimated 1.75 lakh patients needing a kidney transplant and around 50,000 each in need of a liver, heart, or lung transplant annually. The campaign will run from 13th August to 31st August 2025, launching on World Organ Donation Day, and will be implemented across all Sahyadri Hospitals in Pune, Nashik, Karad, and Ahilyanagar. The campaign will use social media videos, challenges, and myth-busting content alongside on-ground activities to inspire citizens to pledge for organ donation and give someone the priceless gift of life.

Earlier this week, a 21-year-old donor saved the lives of five people suffering from critical illnesses in Pune after being declared brain dead at Sahyadri Hospital. In a moment of profound courage and compassion, the donor’s family chose to give the gift of life, enabling patients with irreversible and life-threatening liver, heart, lung, and kidney failure to receive transplants. Such stories illustrate the extraordinary impact a single decision can have—not just for recipients but for their families and communities—and reinforce the urgent need to normalize pledging as an everyday act of social responsibility.

Under this campaign, the citizens can participate by pledging for organ donation either online via the official campaign portal www.ZindagiMilegiDobara.com or by visiting organ donation Pledge kiosks set up in various units of Sahyadri Hospital, corporate office, metro stations where trained volunteers will guide through the process.

Whether pledging through the website, scanning a QR code on campaign standees, or signing up in person at an event, every action counts towards saving lives. By taking the pledge for organ donation, one can become a hero in someone’s life, and might just meet a hero of the silver screen—Bollywood icon Anil Kapoor.
