Pune Weather Alert : Heavy Rain Likely in Next Two Days; ‘Orange Alert’ Issued

Pune : Pune city and district, which have been experiencing pre-monsoon rains for the past few days, are now under an ‘Orange Alert’ issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next two days — Friday (May 23) and Saturday (May 24). Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

According to IMD, there is a high possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in Pune during these two days. Wind speeds may range from 40 to 50 km/h, the forecast said.

Rain Disrupts Life; Citizens Troubled

Pre-monsoon showers have lashed Pune for the past four days. On Tuesday, Shivajinagar recorded 40.5 mm rainfall, while the NDA area witnessed a massive 103 mm rainfall on Wednesday. Several roads were waterlogged, trees and signboards collapsed, and two-wheelers suffered damage, disrupting daily life.

Brief Respite on Thursday, but Warning Continues

On Thursday (May 22), the city saw a slight relief as rainfall intensity decreased, offering some respite to residents. However, with the orange alert in place, caution is still advised. The recorded maximum temperature was 31°C, and the minimum was 22.6°C.

Rain Likely on Sunday Too

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning on Sunday (May 25), with wind speeds expected to be between 30 and 40 km/h.

Temperature Forecast (May 23–25):

  • Friday: Max – 31°C, Min – 22°C

  • Saturday: Max – 32°C, Min – 22°C

  • Sunday: Max – around 32°C, Min – around 22°C
