Big Update | Kashedi Ghat Tunnel Fully Operational for Traffic; 40-Minute Journey Now in Just 15 Minutes
Mumbai, May 19, 2025 — Here’s some welcome news for travelers heading home for the summer vacation. With the power supply fully restored in the second tunnel at Kashedi Ghat on the Mumbai-Goa highway, the entire stretch is now fully open for vehicular traffic.
Faster and Safer Travel Ahead
Previously, the journey from Poladpur in Raigad to Khed in Ratnagiri via Kashedi Ghat used to take 40 to 45 minutes due to the winding, hilly roads. But now, thanks to the newly opened tunnel, this stretch can be covered in just 10 to 15 minutes.
The tunnel is approximately 2 kilometers long, and including the connecting roads, the entire route covers about 9 kilometers — resulting in a significant reduction in travel time and fuel consumption.
Power and Lighting Infrastructure Fully Functional
On May 15, the power supply to the new tunnel was successfully activated, enabling the tunnel in both directions to be fully functional. About 200 street lights are being installed on either side of the tunnel, and most of the work is already complete. This ensures a safer and more comfortable journey for all commuters.
A Big Relief for Konkan-Bound Travelers
With the summer holidays in full swing, the number of people traveling to Konkan has increased. This newly operational tunnel is truly a game-changer for daily commuters, tourists, and cargo transporters alike.
In Conclusion
The opening of this tunnel avoids steep turns and hilly routes, significantly reducing the risk of accidents and offering a faster, smoother, and safer travel experience. Thanks to the efforts of the highway authorities, the journey to Konkan has now become easier and more enjoyable.
