Four years ago, the entire world was brought to a standstill by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns, fear, and loss marked this dark period in history. Many lost their loved ones, and even today, the memories of those difficult times remain fresh. The first major COVID wave in 2020 was brought under control by 2022.
But now, big news is emerging again — COVID-19 seems to be making a comeback in some countries. This resurgence has raised concerns globally. In Singapore, there’s been a noticeable rise in new COVID cases, which has also triggered concern in India.
Will India Face Another COVID Wave? How Dangerous Is the New Variant?
Amid these developments, questions arise — will India experience another wave? How dangerous is this new variant? Could it cause severe health issues? To address these concerns, Dr. Avinash Bhondwe, a well-known health expert, has shared his insights.
Due to the recent rise in COVID cases in Singapore, health authorities in India are staying alert. However, Dr. Bhondwe assures there’s no major cause for concern in India. He reminds us that even though the virus seemed under control in 2022, it was never completely eradicated. The World Health Organization (WHO) had also warned that the virus might resurface in different regions from time to time.
“No Need to Panic,” Says Dr. Bhondwe
Speaking specifically about India, Dr. Bhondwe emphasized that there is no reason to worry at this stage. The new variants currently emerging are not highly dangerous or fatal. Even after the official declaration that the pandemic had ended, India continued to report isolated COVID cases from time to time. This may continue, but a new wave is unlikely, he said.
He also noted that this virus has now been found in some animals, according to researchers. Whether the variant is old or new, the precautions remain the same — maintain hygiene, wear masks in crowded places, and stay vigilant.
“COVID may return in small ways, but there’s no need to panic — just be careful,” says Dr. Bhondwe.
