A Solution to Traffic Congestion : Over the past few years, Pune has witnessed a significant rise in traffic congestion, causing delays, increased travel times, and pollution. To combat this, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has undertaken several road development projects and is rapidly expanding the city’s metro network.
A Key Project at University Chowk : One such initiative is the double-decker flyover at Pune University Chowk. This flyover will connect key areas such as Ganeshkhind Road, Shivajinagar, Aundh, Baner, Pashan, and Hinjewadi, facilitating smoother and more efficient traffic movement.
Project Highlights & Current Status
Girder Length: Approximately 55 meters
Width: 18 to 20 meters
Total Support Pillars: 32 pillars have been constructed
Current Work Status: Installation of steel girders is in its final phase
Most of the project work is now complete. The main road is expected to be open to the public by June 30, as per official sources.
Prior to that, ramps leading to Aundh and Shivajinagar will be operational from May 20, while the Aundh ramp is scheduled for full completion by June.
Benefits for Citizens : The double-decker flyover is expected to:
Streamline traffic in busy zones
Save travel time : Reduce fuel consumption and lower pollution
Conclusion : The double-decker flyover at Pune University Chowk represents a significant step forward for urban infrastructure in Pune. It promises to ease daily commutes, making travel more convenient and time-efficient for thousands of residents.
