Pune, Correspondent:
A strong protest was staged at S.P. College Chowk on Monday by members of the Gulabo Gang against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, accusing him of fraudulent activities, exploitation of women, and promoting superstition.
The protesters carried out a symbolic funeral procession (tiradi) to express their anger and demanded immediate action from the authorities. They warned that failure to act promptly would lead to an intensified agitation across the state.
Key demands raised during the protest included the immediate registration of an FIR and arrest of Ashok Kharat, a thorough investigation into Rupali Chakankar as a co-accused along with her arrest, and the resignation of Neelam Gorhe on moral grounds.
The protest was led by Sangeeta Tiwari, President of the Payal Tiwari Bitiya Foundation and Gulabo Gang. Speaking at the demonstration, she said, “We will not tolerate those who exploit women in the name of blind faith. If the system fails to act, we will continue our fight until justice is delivered.”
A formal letter has been submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a detailed investigation and strict punishment in the case. As part of their campaign, the group has also sent multiple postcards urging immediate justice for the victims.
Several women activists participated in the protest, including Shobhana Pannikar, Pooja Patil Chavan, Priya Patil Suryavanshi, Sonia Ovhal, Sarika Shinde, Bharti Londhe, Parul Tai, Shubha Wafare, Malan Chavan, Suvarna Mane, and Shubhangi Wakhare, among others.
The protesters issued a warning that if immediate action is not taken, a statewide agitation will be launched, holding the administration responsible for the consequences.
