Pune: A special POCSO court in Pune has denied bail to an auto-rickshaw driver, Anil Jedhe (31), who was arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking and sexual exploitation of a minor girl.
The case came to light in February when the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Pune Police raided Shree Sai Lodge on Satara Road following a tip-off about a sex racket. During the operation, a 16-year-old girl was rescued from a room. Police also arrested lodge manager Jeevan Ingole and alleged agent Varsha Shirsath. A case was registered at Sahakar Nagar Police Station under provisions of the BNS, ITPA, and POCSO Act.
Jedhe, a resident of Chinchwad, had sought bail stating he had no involvement in the racket and no prior criminal history. However, Special Judge Kavita D Shirbhate rejected his plea, observing that the investigation is ongoing and requires deeper examination.
According to the prosecution, the victim first came into contact with Varsha Shirsath at the age of 14 and was later introduced to Jedhe. The duo allegedly lured her with money before forcing her into prostitution at various lodges in Pune and Chinchwad. It was also revealed that a fake Aadhaar card had been created to falsely show her as an adult.
The investigation has now widened, as the victim informed police about at least 17 other girls allegedly trapped in the same racket. Taking serious note of this, the court emphasized the need for further probe and pointed out that the chargesheet is yet to be filed.
