Pune: Ashishkumar Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India was honored with the Suryadatta National Award 2024. He is an Indian business leader and administrator whom Professor Dr. Sanjay B. Chordiya, Founder President, and Chairman of Suryadatta Education Foundation, Pune recognized.
In a program held at the National Stock Exchange, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, the Suryadatta National Award was conferred upon Chouhan by Professor Dr Sanjay B. Chordiya for excellence in the field of Finance.
Ashish is a technocrat from IIT Bombay and IIM Calcutta. He is one of the founders of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). He set up NSE’s screen-based trading and also created the NIFTY index and handled many activities during NSE’s formative years. He is considered the father of modern financial derivatives due to his work at NSE from 1993-2000.
He has served on and is part of several policy committees of the Government including the Ministry of Finance, Education, MSME, CBDT as well as regulators such as RBI and SEBI. He also headed the South Asia Federation of Exchanges (SAFE) consisting of more than 20 exchanges. Currently, he is a Member of the Board of WFE. He has spoken at conferences organized by several multilateral institutions including the UN, WEF, WFE, UNCTAD, and OECD.
He also serves as Chancellor of the University of Allahabad, one of India’s oldest universities. He is on the boards of several famous government educational institutions, including IIMs, AJNIFM (National Institute of Financial Management), NITs, and IIITs. He also serves as a distinguished visiting faculty member at other international universities. He co-authored the book ‘BSE: The Temple of Wealth Creation’. His life path was documented in the book ‘Sthithpragya: The Process of Maintaining an Equilibrium’.
Prof. Dr. Sanjay B. Chordiya stated that it is like honoring oneself. He is known as the Father of Derivatives. He is a source of enthusiasm and energy for pupils and the entire country. For the past 22 years, the Suryadatta Lifetime Achievement Award and Suryadatta National Award have been given to those who have made significant contributions to many spheres of society while serving as guiding beacons. Chouhan has made exceptional contributions to the realm of finance. His most notable achievement is the establishment of the NSE.
Ashishkumar Chouhan accepted the award with gratitude. He also appreciated Suryadatta’s 25 years of journey in education and offered best wishes for future endeavors.
