Pune, 17th December 2023: Krida Prabodhini logged their second win and make it to the last-8 stage, while GST Customs, Income Tax opened their accounts with a breeze as they won their pool encounters with ease in the 3rd MJ Cup Invitational Hockey Tournament (Men and Women) 2023 at the Maj. Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium at the Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Sunday.
The tournament being held under the aegis of Hockey Maharashtra and organized by Excellency Hockey Academy in joint association with the Dhanraj Pillay Foundation.
In Pool-C action, GST Customs slammed a 6-1 verdict over Friends Union Club with Stephan Swami (32nd and 50th) leading the way with a penalty corner conversion to begin his day and then a field day. He was and assisted by Aniket Gurav (9th), Pranav Mane (18th), Satish Paul (36th) and Sebastian Dass (38th). The winners led 2-0 at the breather.
Meanwhile, Krida Prabodhini notched their second win of the group thrashing Hockey Lovers Academy 10-0. A triple goal feat by Vinayak Hande (22nd, 33rd, 42nd – p.c) and Rohan Patil (37th – p.c), 50th – p.c, 53rd – p.c) paved the way, while a brace by Sachin Kolekar (14th – p.c) and a goal by Venkatesh Kenche (16th, 21st) and Kartik Pathare 59th) was enough to make the tally
Income Tax headlined Pool-C with a 11-0 victory over Poona Hockey Academy. Leading the way was Chirag Mane (7th, 18th – p.c, 32nd, 43rd, 57th) with a five-goal effort and was helped by a three goal feat by Ashutosh Lingesh (28th- p.c , 39th, 59th). The one-sided win was completed by Ritesh Pawar (13th – p.c). Vikram Singh (15th) and a penalty-corner conversion by Rahul Sander (28th).
